【Tested Engines】 All Our Engines Are Inspected and Scored for Quality
When buying a used engine, quality is one of the most important factors. At ePartsWorld Kenya, we provide a clear and reliable answer through our unique engine inspection standards, originally developed in Japan and recognized internationally.

The Background: Why Standardized Engine Inspection Matters
Until recently, there was no universal standard for evaluating the quality of used automobile parts. As a result, parts of widely varying quality were distributed globally — some reusable, others not. This situation has led some governments, such as Kenya’s, to consider regulating or even banning certain used automotive parts to protect consumers.

Recognizing this, Kaiho Industry in Japan established its own standardized quality evaluation system for used parts: JRS (Japan Reuse Standard). In 2013, this was officially issued as PAS777 by the British Standards Institution, becoming the world’s first international standard for evaluating used engines.

This initiative attracted attention worldwide as a model for ensuring transparency and quality in the global used parts market.

From JRS to JGES — Evolving for the Digital Era
In 2010, JRS set a new benchmark by inspecting and evaluating key factors such as mileage, engine sludge, and exterior condition. Professional inspectors in Japan evaluate around 8,000 engines annually, carefully testing each one to determine its actual condition.

With the growth of e-commerce and advances in inspection technology, the system evolved further. In 2022, we introduced JGES (Japan Good Engine Standard) — an updated inspection framework tailored for online purchasing.

JGES maintains the core PAS777 inspection criteria but adds more transparency, traceability, and digital data, including engine start-up videos and scoring systems, so customers can understand engine condition before buying.

What We Inspect and Score
Each engine is checked and classified based on multiple criteria. These include:

・Mileage

・Starting condition (e.g., stable idle, abnormal noises, white smoke)& Engine video

・Rust level

・Engine sludge level

Additonal Inspection

・Crank check

・Missing or damaged parts (with clear price adjustments)

Engines are then scored based on these factors, and the price is adjusted accordingly, making the quality differences visible and understandable for every customer. This way, buyers can make informed decisions based on both mileage and actual condition.

Why This Matters for You
Unlike typical used engines sold without clear background, all engines listed on ePartsWorld Kenya are tested, scored, and documented. You can see mileage information, condition scores, and even videos of the engine running before purchase.

This system allows you to confidently choose the engine that fits your needs and budget — whether you prioritize low mileage, excellent mechanical condition, or the best value for money.
