The Philippines has been revising its outdated inspection laws to introduce a new motor vehicle inspection and registration system.

Compared to Japan, many countries have less frequent or less strict inspections, which can affect the long-term condition of vehicles and engines.

The key to making engines last longer is avoiding excessive strain — such as sudden acceleration, sudden braking, or high-speed driving.

In Japan, many drivers follow traffic rules strictly and drive calmly. This results in progressive and smooth driving, which reduces wear on engines.

The maximum speed on Japanese expressways is usually 100 km/h, lower than the 110–130 km/h commonly found in Western countries.

Urban speed limits are also lower, typically 40–60 km/h. This means engines experience less stress from high-speed or aggressive driving, helping them stay in better condition.

Another important factor is that Japanese people rarely drive long distances. For travel over 300 km, most people prefer trains or airplanes. This means engines are rarely subjected to continuous high-load operation.

Additionally, Japan is famous for its excellent road infrastructure. Roads are well paved, with few bumps or potholes. Even if damage occurs, repairs are typically completed within just a few days — a speed that is well known internationally.

Smooth roads reduce vibrations and stress on vehicles and engines, extending their lifespan.

The climate also plays an important role. Unlike desert regions or areas with high dust levels, Japan has a relatively clean atmosphere with little sand or dust.

This means engines are less exposed to fine particles, which can otherwise cause serious wear or damage. The combination of clean air and well-maintained roads creates an ideal environment for keeping engines in excellent condition.
